A bookshop POS that keeps the counter moving
Scan or search, bill in the right unit, take payment in any mix of tenders, and never sell a copy you do not have.
BooksPOS is point-of-sale software for bookshops and book depots in Pakistan. The till is keyboard-first: scan a barcode or type part of a title, an author, an item code, an ISBN (with or without dashes) or Urdu text, pick the unit and take payment. A bill in progress survives a crash, and a bill can be held while the customer decides.
Behind every sale, stock leaves through a ledger that is never edited, the payment lands in the right account, and a credit sale goes to the customer's khata within their limit. A sale that would take stock below zero is refused, so two counters can never both sell the last copy.

Every way to pay
Split one bill across cash, card, bank transfer, EasyPaisa and JazzCash, on the customer's khata, or from their advance. Change is worked out.
Discounts with limits
A line discount above the limit (10% by default) needs the price-override permission; selling below cost needs authorisation.
Returns against the bill
Part of a bill, in another unit if needed, back to stock or marked damaged. Never more than was sold, even from two counters at once.
Held bills
Park a bill and serve the next customer. A bill in progress is kept on disk, so a crash does not lose it.
Receipts
58 and 80 mm thermal receipts (Urdu printed as an image when needed) and A4 invoices. Built in software; not yet tried on a real printer.

Fast, and honest about its state
Measured, not guessed
On a development PC with 50,000 items, a scan answered in under 5 ms and a sale posted in under 25 ms for 95 of every 100 tries. A shop's own PC will differ.
Everyone signs in
Owners, managers, cashiers, accountants and warehouse staff each sign in with their own name, and every posting records who made it.
Blind shift close
The cashier counts the drawer first, then sees the difference, which is recorded.

We install BooksPOS on your main PC with you. There is no public installer yet.

Bring in your lists
Items, opening stock, customers and suppliers from CSV, every row checked before saving.

Start billing
Give your staff their own sign-ins and roles, and open the till.

The till is tested with automated tests and on synthetic demo data. No shop runs it yet.

The till is a Windows program: Windows 11 (64-bit) is the development and test machine; Windows 10 22H2 is intended but not yet tested on a till.

Yes. The till takes a barcode typed or scanned into its search box, so a scanner that types like a keyboard is the kind it is built for; a real hand scanner has not been tried with it yet. Each item can have several barcodes, such as the publisher's barcode, your old labels and a pack barcode, and each finds the right item and unit.
Yes. One bill can be split across cash, card, bank transfer, EasyPaisa and JazzCash, put on the customer's khata, or paid from their advance. Card and wallet payments are recorded, not verified with the provider.
