BooksPOS Cloud (the owner portal, at bookspos.pk) has its own sign-in, separate from the staff sign-ins on the till. The first account belongs to the owner: it pairs store PCs, shows each branch's daily sales, and can revoke a PC. Because it can do that, protect it with two-step sign-in. This guide covers the account, approval, signing in, two-step sign-in and passwords.
An owner can add other people of the business on the Team page, each with a role and their own password. Signing in, two-step sign-in, recovery codes and a forgotten password work the same for them as for the owner. See Team accounts and roles in the owner portal.
Getting an account
- Signing up on the website opens the owner account; the BooksPOS team can also open it with you.
- When sign-up is open on the site, its form asks for Your name, Business name, City, Mobile number, Email, how you will run BooksPOS (Cloud or Offline), Password and Password again.
- One trial per mobile number and email address. The check ignores how the number is written (0300-1234567 and +92 300 1234567 are the same number) and, for Gmail, dots and "+" additions in the address. If a trial was already started with them, the form says so and gives the BooksPOS team's phone and WhatsApp (or the contact page) instead of opening a second one.
The account made at sign-up is the owner's. People the owner adds on the Team page get an emailed link and choose their own password there. Staff sign in on the till with their own accounts, which are separate (Staff, roles and counters).
Waiting for approval
The BooksPOS team approves each new business by hand. Until then, the portal shows Waiting for approval: "Until then you can look around and set up two-step sign-in, but not create pairing codes for your store PCs." If the business cannot be approved yet, the notice says why, with a link to contact the team.
Signing in
Open the portal and choose Login. Type your Email and Password, then Sign in.
After five wrong attempts for the same email from the same network, sign-in pauses: "Too many sign-in attempts. Try again in … seconds."
An account that an owner turned off on the Team page is told so after its password: "This account has been turned off. Ask an owner of your business to turn it on again."
How to turn on two-step sign-in
With two-step sign-in, your password alone is not enough: you also type a 6-digit code from an app on your phone. The portal's dashboard reminds you while it is off: "Two-step sign-in is off. Anyone with your password could pair a PC or revoke your devices."
- In the portal, open Security (under Account).
- Choose Set up two-step sign-in.
- Open an authenticator app on your phone, for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 2FAS.
- Scan the QR code on the screen with the app, or type the Key shown below it.
- Type the 6-digit code the app shows into Code from the app, and choose Turn on two-step sign-in.
- Save the recovery codes now. "They are shown only once." Each one signs you in once if you lose your phone. Write them down and keep them away from the phone.
From now on, after your password, the portal asks for the code: "Open your authenticator app and type the 6-digit code it shows for BooksPOS Cloud."

Recovery codes
- Lost your phone? On the code screen, choose Lost your phone? Use a recovery code, type one of your codes and Use recovery code. Each code works once.
- The Security page says how many are left. Replace recovery codes makes a new set (your password is asked for) and the old ones stop working.
- Turn off switches two-step sign-in off, with your password. Only do this if you are about to set it up again on a new phone.
A forgotten password
- On the sign-in page, choose Forgot your password?
- Type your account's Email and choose Send the reset link.
- Open the email and choose a new password. The link works for 60 minutes.
If the email does not arrive within a few minutes (check the spam folder), contact the BooksPOS team through the contact form.
To change a password you know, sign out and use Forgot your password?: the reset link goes to your email.
The security log
Security also lists what happened on the account: pairing codes created, PCs revoked, two-step sign-in turned on or off, password resets, and every change on the Team page. Each row shows When (Pakistan time), What, Who (you, another person of the business, or BooksPOS support when the team acted for you) and From which network address. Owners and managers see the log; every account sees its own two-step sign-in and phones.
Common questions
Is the cloud password the same as my till password?
No. They are separate. The till's owner sign-in is created on the store PC; the cloud account uses your email.
The sign-up form says a trial was already used. What now?
A trial was started before with that mobile number or email address, perhaps by you for another shop. Call or WhatsApp the BooksPOS team on the number the form shows, or write through the contact page: the team can help you choose a plan, or look at your case.
How does my manager sign in?
On the till and the store PC, with their own staff account and role; see Staff, roles and counters. For the owner portal, add them on the Team page with the Manager role: they get a link to choose their own password and sign in with their own email. See Team accounts and roles in the owner portal.
What if I lose my phone and my recovery codes?
Contact the BooksPOS team through the contact form. There is no self-service way back in without the app or a recovery code, and no button in the team's panel to switch an owner's two-step sign-in off, so it is handled with you by hand. Keep the recovery codes safe to avoid this.
Does two-step sign-in affect the till?
No. It protects the cloud portal only. The till keeps working with its own sign-ins, with or without internet.
