Many book depots sell a school's uniform next to its books: shirts, trousers, ties and sweaters, each in several sizes. In BooksPOS a uniform piece such as Shirt – City School is added once with all its sizes, and each size is its own item with its own price, barcode and stock. The till asks which size, the bill says it ("Shirt – City School (26)"), and the stock of every size shows on one line.
Adding a uniform
- Open Catalog and choose New uniform.
- Type the Piece and school, for example Shirt – City School, and if you like its Colour and Category (such as Uniforms).
- In Sizes, type the sizes separated by spaces, such as 22 24 26 28 30, or by commas, such as S, M, L, XL. Choose Make sizes: a row appears for each size, smallest first.
- Type a Price (Rs), every size and choose Apply to put it in every row, then change the rows of the sizes that cost more. A wholesale price is optional.
- If a size has a barcode of its own, type it in its row. Sizes without one get a BooksPOS label to print, like any item (see Barcode labels).
- Optionally set a Tax rate and Low at: the number of pieces per size at or below which a size shows as low.
- Choose Save sizes. All the sizes are added at once, or none if something needs correcting.

To add more sizes later, select the piece in Catalog and choose New uniform again: the form opens as Add sizes to that piece, and only the new sizes are added. A size the piece already has is refused, and so is a barcode that is on another item.
Stock comes in as for any item: with a supplier bill (see Receiving stock) or opening stock (see Stock adjustments), one line per size.
Selling at the till
Search for the piece or the school, for example city school. The piece shows once, with its sizes: Shirt – City School · sizes 22 · 24 · 26 · 28 · 30. Press Enter or click it, and Which size? opens with every size, its price and how many are in stock. Choose the size with the arrow keys and Enter, or click it.

Scanning a size's own barcode or its BooksPOS label adds that size straight away, without the question. The bill, the receipt and the return all name the size.
Seeing each size's stock
On the Stock page, choose Uniform sizes. Each piece is on one line with every size's pieces at every place (shop floor and godown), smallest size first: 22 → 6 · 24 → 0 · 26 → 8. A size with none left is red, and one at or below its low mark is amber. The Stock page's own list also names each line's size, and the Every kind filter has Uniforms.

Uniforms in a school's set
A uniform can be a line of a school's class list (see School course sets). Add any size of the piece; the list shows it as (any size), with the stock of every size, and it starts as Optional because parents may buy the uniform elsewhere.
When the set is added at the till (F6), BooksPOS asks the child's size for each uniform line and bills that size with the set's discount. Another piece is never accepted on that line. See Selling a school set at the till.
Bringing uniforms in from a file
In the file you import, an Excel workbook from BooksPOS 1.1.0 or a CSV file (see Importing from Excel or CSV), put uniform in the Type column and each size in the Size column, one row per size with the same title. A uniform row without a size, or the same piece and size twice, is shown as an error before anything is saved.
In BooksPOS Cloud and the Owner app
On the Cloud edition, each size reaches the owner portal and the Owner app with its size, such as Shirt – City School (26), and its stock at every branch. Stock sent to another branch arrives as the same size of the same piece.
Common questions
Can a piece come in two colours?
Yes. Add each colour as its own piece, such as Shirt – City School (white) and Shirt – City School (blue), each with its own sizes.
Where are uniforms added?
On the store PC: Catalog › New uniform, or a CSV file with the type uniform. On the Cloud edition, the owner portal and the Owner app then show each size with its stock at every branch.
How do I rename a piece?
Each size is its own item: open it from Catalog and change its title. Rename every size the same way, so they stay one piece.
